THE SAFFRON IN SPAIN

When the Arabs brought it to Spain, at the beginning of the X century, they found excellent lands and regions like Castilla, Castilla la Mancha, Murcia and Aragón to cultivate and improve the quality, becoming famous and acquiring international prestige as Spanish saffron designation of origin during the last XX century.

As we observed that the cultivation, recollection and subsequent long manipulation, make the spice cost very high, this industry has become famous at La Mancha’s plateau (at the edge of legendary windmills of Don Quijote) where is produced the best saffron in the world. During the recollection of these beautiful flowers (by hand, one by one), each stigma is cropped, toasted and packed for guarantee the best quality.
